More About badeyadya queer founder Luke Cutler

BaDeYaDeYa celebrates and advocates for our fluid life. We understand the importance of what being your authentic self means to you. We believe that Love is Love regardless of one's gender identity or sexuality.

Luke Cutler, artist and owner, draws on a lifetime of queer experiences to empower those who want to embrace an alternate lifestyle so that they can be their most authentic self.

“My mother worked in the fashion district of Little Collins Street and whenever possible she would go to the Tivoli Theatre. As a non-binary child I was eager embraced both of her passions. From a young age learnt all I could about the art of couture fashion and it love of theatre - even taking me to see Australian theatre legend Toni Lamond 1966.

As a result I have spent much of my life dressing up and hanging out in theatres, burlesque clubs. Becoming enchanted, entranced and entrenched in a life made richer by the whit and beauty of showgirl/showboys of all genders.

Having entered my first discotheque aged 16 I haven't stopped dancing yet. Like many queer people it was on the dancefloor I found my artistic, queer logical family. They nurtured me and helped me experience the wealth of queer, alternative culture out there and step-by-step move towards my true authentic self. I owe a lot to my elder liberationists and the feminine powerful goddesses of every gender teaching a healing and gentler way of being, at my age my mentors are my juniors, my teachers.”
